Aer Lingus snowboard bag weight and charges?

Hey, sorry if this has been discussed before.
Flying out to France on March 3rd, usually go with package/charter holiday so (board)bag weight isn't a problem but on having checked out Aer Lingus policy they only allow for 15 kg(which ain't much). Anyone have experience with them lately? Are they uber strict and do they actually weigh your board bag, as usually you're just sent to oversize baggage and it's dumped there? Do not want to get stung with the 15 euros per kg charge if I'm over!

Thanks in advance for any help.

In terminal two they just send you over the left where there is an oversize baggage drop, the guy just asks you to put your bag on the conveyor belt and that's it - don't think they weigh it, unless there was a sly scale built into the belt that I didn't see.

Just flew with them to Geneva – they were very lax about baggage. Didn’t really seem to bother them at all. Loads of the bags were overweight. And she suggested that one lad taped his blades to his already overweight suitcase so he didn’t have to pay the extra item cost. He didn’t have any tape, so paid the diff. Dropped it off at oversized luggage and they didn’t bat an eyelid. Didn’t seem to be anywhere to weigh them either. They were all just popped on a trolley.

Now this was our particular experience. You could get stung with some jobsworth!

It might be possible to pre-book sports equipment with Aer Lingus. I'd look into that.

Are you bringing a piece of luggage too? Or is this your only check-in?

    Hey, thanks for the replies!

Yeah it is def pre book with Aer Lingus, 30 euro each way, 15kg max.. My situation this year is that my girlfriend is coming with me so I wanted to get 2 of everything into the bag and maybe even 2 boards for me, I bought a beast of a bag for this reason :) and then the plan was to have 1 check in bag for luggage between us so (30+30)+30 = 90 euro all in for gear.
I just have the fear because my folks were weighed with golf bags flying with Aer Lingus not too long ago and had to pay some extra...

I'll prob chance it, just wanted to know what peoples experiences were lately.

I've had some strange experiences lately, I found a man walking down the road with a rabbit in his hat, then there was my old school teacher who moved out of his house to live in a shoe..... Strange indeed....

Kellz, quit your jibber jabber and wear your jacket on the plane to shed the weight. BOOM!

There is usually a standard charge for oversize baggage but no weight limit as far as i could see. I brought through sports gear that was heavy and it made no difference :D

My board bag was 22kg and the lady behind the check-in desk in T2 told me it was over.

I reasoned with her that I didn't bring any hand luggage (I was entitled to 20kg) and there was no hassle at all, but just so you know they do sometimes check.

Have travelled loads of times with Aer Lingus and never had a problem even though they say the max weight for a ski bag is 15kg I have never seen them enforce it. In T2 they dont even bother weighing the bag they just tell you to bring it over to oversize baggage. I travelled with a large group recently and some of the ski bags were seriously overweight. The guy at the desk was uber cool about it and just put "heavy" tags on them!!!.

Aer Lingus is great, but we got our sports bags weighted on number of occasions while flying with them. I'd be careful with overly exceeding 15kg allowances. 1-2 kg probably be ok, more could be a problem in the case they decide to check.
we usually take one bag and put boards and bindings into it plus jackets and pants for padding. The rest goes into main luggage (including boots).
    Enjoy your holidays!
