    Hi

I want to get a road bike for the odd sunday morning cycle or maybe an odd dualathlon. I'm a complete newbie and dummy to cycling . Was looking at getting started with something like the Carrera TDF from halfords for €410. Or can anyone advise an atlernative for around the same money - don't mind if its second hand.

    Thanks in advance

i had one of these and did many sportifs/commutes/club spins on it. Apart from the fact it was heavy (circa 11kgs) it was a fine bike and I had no problems with it. I changed it for a carbon bike. If you have an axa car insurance policy you can get an extra 15% off. I took the bike away in a box and assembled myself. I know there are some concerns about the halfords staffs ability, but as far as the bike is concerned there is nothing particularly bad about it (apart from the weight)

Alternatively, you could get a nicer second hand bike for your 400 euro, but its second hand and may need maintenance/parts.

decent enough starter bike for low cost imho

I got excited when I saw the thread title, thinking it would be a replica of the bike that Stephen Roche rode to victory in 1987. Like this:

However, then I saw this bit and realised I was mistaken :(

    Sorry to drag off-topic!

Are you able to take advantage of the bike-to-work scheme? Then you can effectively get a new bike at second-hand prices.
