It popped up this morning saying that it has been disabled because there are some new permissions added:

It can now access your data on all websites, and your tabs and browsing activity.

Anybody know exactly what data it's taking from me? Can't find any mentions of it on google.

edit: Just found a description of this on google's support site. "This item can read every page that you visit - your bank, your web email, your Facebook page and so on."

    What do you think?

Re-download ad block here. You may have a rogue one or something! Having said that, it could be just telling you the extension is run on every site, which is true, as it needs to be able to remove the ads

It still asks to access data on all websites...

As I said, thats normal, Adblock needs to be able to intercept the website data to filter out the ads, I wouldn't worry about it but if you are just don't use Adblock. Adblock Plus are legit and have been supporting and maintaining the firefox plugin for years

I've found out the story behind the latest permission thing in case anybody's wondering:

Why did Chrome disable AdBlock and make me accept crazy new permissions?

    The short answer:

A bug in Chrome showed you a permission warning when there was no warning needed, and AdBlock has not increased its power.

    The long answer:

AdBlock 2.5.15 added popup blocking, which required adding the 'webNavigation' permission.

Normally, when an extension adds a permission, Chrome disables it until you confirm the increase in power. In this case, AdBlock already had the 'tabs' permission (see the previous question in this FAQ for why), and 'tabs' is more powerful than 'webNavigation'. So Chrome should not have asked you to accept an increase in power, for there was no increase.

The Chrome developers at Google realized this was a bug in Chrome. If AdBlock wants to add the 'webNavigation' permission, they reasoned, we shouldn't disable AdBlock and show a permission warning, because there has been no increase in AdBlock's power.

I had been waiting to release popup blocking until they fixed this bug. They fixed the bug in Chrome 17 and 18, but not in Chrome 16. I didn't realize Chrome 16 hadn't been fixed, so I went ahead and shipped popup blocking in version 2.5.15, and my Chrome 16 users saw the permission warning. I then shipped 2.5.16 which removes popup blocking again, and won't re-add it until all users have the Chrome bug fix.

    In summary:

Chrome shouldn't have shown a warning, AdBlock hasn't gotten more powerful, and as the previous question in the FAQ explains, you already read the same permission warning when you installed AdBlock and agreed to trust me. And if you're still skeptical, you can email me at adblockforchrome at gmail and I'll explain further. I'm a real person and am not doing anything shady :)
