My insurance is due for renewal so been checking online and ringing around, best quote was from 25plus.ie but it put my car through as a seat leon tdi 105bhp, i then changed it to be what it should be a seat leon SDI, and it wont quote me so rang the helpline and was told my car is grouped to high for my age group! im 25 and its a 68bhp non turbo car... but yet it will quote me on a 105BHP turbo leon, now several other price comparison sites wont quote me on SDI if its even listed in first place

Yes but which car is someone more likely to be acting the tit in?

Lets not get confused between 'high performance' and 'high risk'.

There are lots of mid/late 90's JDM cars out there that wouldn't pull you out of bed in the morning, but they're 'high risk' due to car thefts etc.

But OP, I think you're probably right in this case and it sounds like it's grouped wrong. Maybe look to speak to a supervisor when they won't quote you and explain your gripe.

I was looking around for quotes for a rare high performance version (near 300bhp) of a regular car and got a couple of quotes that were so low I am inclined to think they were not differentiating it from the regular version.

I was not attempting to trick them to get an incorrect lower quote, I am fully aware it wouldn't be a valid policy if i did . I gave all the info requested including the full model name and engine size. As it happened I didn't buy the car so I didn't go any further with it. I was not sure how to proceed really, a low premium would have been good but not if there was a question over them being able to invalidate the policy were a claim made.

If its rare its likely they've had little or no claims on one hence the low quote.

A perfect example of this is when Legacy B4 RSK's started appearing on these shores, they cost next to nothing to insure in the beginning and as such a 280BHP saloon became popular, claims increased and now they are high risk and costly to insure.
