    Hey Lads,

I have a car I've been working on for a few months and the Tax and N.C.T is overdue! :P

But I'm booked in for the test next week, So I was going to swap the car onto my mother's insurance for the day and just wondering when I want to tax the car a few days before the test could I tax the car without N.C.T&Insurance details or will I shove down the mothers insurance details?

I better point out that I will be getting my own insurance policy a couple's days after the test.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

P.S: I meant to say N.C.T and insurance (not Tax)!

YOu cannot get tax without submitting a valid insurance policy number.
YOu do not need an NCT to TAX a car.

HOWEVER - I dont think they actually check the insurance details against the car when taxing it.

Thats a new one on me. I've been too lazy once or twice when taxing cars online to walk outside to check the policy number and just made one up.

I tried to swap my Sierra on to my fiesta policy for a weekend when I first got it and was awaiting the NCT. My insurance co wouldn't do it as it had no NCT, so check in advance you can actually swap your Ma's policy on ot it.

I beleve you can drive it to the NCT with no tax but you'd need to check this

Thanks for the replies lads. :) But ya if they didn't actually check if the car is insured I think I should put down the mother's policy number and say nothing!ha.

Also due to it being parked up for awhile I'll need to get my tax renewal form stamped by the guards because I'm not paying tax for the month's it has just been sitting in my garden, so I cant tax it by the internet without being back-taxed can I?

OK so will I just go into the tax office? I'll tell them my situation and demand a letter in case I get stopped by the guards!:D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

That's all perfectly fine, Entershakari. Change your mothers insurance onto your car for the day (and make sure you are a named driver if you are going to drive it), have a Garda stamp the form that you had the car off the road until the end of January, go tax your car from February and then NCT it. Make sure you have your NCT booking printed out and with you in the car, just in case a guard stops you. Good luck, and welcome to boards :)
