The ‘Hope & Dream 10’ will take place in Enniscorthy on April 1st, 2012. We are organising this 10 mile race event to raise funds for two charities – Hope; a cancer support organisation in Enniscorthy and Share a Dream foundation; a charity that makes the dreams of sick and terminally ill children come true.
Our goal is to raise in excess of €100,000 with our event and split all proceeds equally between the two charities. We will ask 1000 people to raise in excess of €100 each in order to meet our target. We already have the support of the media to help achieve this and our marketing program will be high profile and celebrity driven.

All money raised by participants will go to the charities. None of this money will be used for administrative costs and the organisers do not profit from the event in any way.

As part of this event we would love to provide 'Pacers'. We had in mind 80mins, 90mins and 100mins. If anyone out there can help out this would be great. The course can be seen by following this link.

Pacers can bring a friend, will get any goodies on offer and a lot of gratitude. No entry fee. Anyone interested can contact me directly here. joleary@mysport.ie

Can't help you as I'm doing the Ultra in Conn that day.... Others more experienced than me will correct me if wrong but it would seem very unusual to have pacers at 10 minute miles for a 10 mile race... Perhaps 70, 80, 90 might be better? Good luck with your event!

Picking pace bands is tricky - IMO race organisers should try and cover as much of the race field as possible with pacers. There is an almost macho element to providing fast pacers (look at us, we have sub 3 pacers, see how fast our course is!) and often at the expense of providing slower runners with pacers further down the field (for example 4:30, 4:45 or 5 hours in a marathon). In my experience slower runners are just as likely to be gunning for a target time and may need the motivation and experience of a pacer even more than the faster guys. And I have seen sub 3 marathon pacers crossing the line virtually solo compared to the vast hoards around the 4 hour guys. Now in an ideal world every race would be like DCM and provide pacers at all levels! If I were the race director I'd look at predicted finish times and work it out from there...

That said having pacers at a 10 miler is unusual, it's quite short. And I am not sure how the people who normally pace would feel about lining up in a race with such restrictive entry criteria (asking for E100 per racer). If you do decide to go ahead with it the pacers do have a general list of requirements that RDs normally provide:

    - overnight hotel for out of towners
    - E50 expenses to cover travel (this may be due a revision actually)
    - Pacer gear, a distinctive singlet or T shirt to be worn on the day. DCM provides a full set of kit
    - Free entry for a friend (smaller races do this)
    - Free entry to the race and all other race "goodies"

Not all races provide all of these but most of the bigger ones (and a 1000 strong field is at the bigger end) do. I know this is a charity event so I know money is better channelled for that than pacers but I just wanted to give you some background. You may find it tricky as a lot of the experienced pacers will be in Conn but the guys that ran the Strawberry half had a very well organised set of pacers (through here, as it happens) so perhaps you could get in touch with them? This event has been publicised by a Mod to the Pacers so I am sure that anyone interested will be in touch.

    Good luck with the event.

Enjoyed this run on Sunday, - didn't realise it was going to be so hilly, but was a nice run, well organised, well done to all. Hopefully plenty of money was raised for the charities involved.
