    Hello

Anyone have any experience with the Mazda 6, 2009 onwards. Any comments welcome

    Are they reliable ?

They seem to be very well priced but is that becasuse they are bad !

Id be looking for a diesel one with plenty of poke. So the 2.2 litre probably , they seem to range in horse power from 140 to 185, but I think there are f3ck alll 185 BHP versions in Ireland

They seem to mainly come in Hatchback with f3ck all Saloons

Also, can anyone tell me what "TS2" means in the naming ?

I'd love to hear some responses too.

TS2 refers to the level of equipment that the particular model has.

    See here:

TS spec levels were used on UK cars, not here.

I have this terrible feeling that the 2.2 diesel is bascially an enlarged version of the infamous 2.0 MZR-CD engine, well known for its fondness of going expensively wrong quite often.

If it is based on Mazda's disasterous 2.0 diesel then don't bother.

If it is a completely new design then I see no reason not to buy one, but try and find the 163 or 185 models - I think all the Paddy spec ones are the 129 PS lump:rolleyes:.

I bought an 09 petrol (1.8 Exec SE) a year ago having owned the previous model for a few years. I think they're very good value compared to similar makes and models.

I went for the 6 the last time specifically for reliability (had a Laguna before that - enough said!) and it never gave me any problems.

There are three specs and the Exec SE is the middle. The lower one is very basic and the top one (Sport) is a bit much for my liking, especially the tinted windows but otherwise very nice.

All of that said, I remember not being interested in the diesel because of a review I read on honestjohn.co.uk.

PM me if you want to know the name of the dealer I got mine from. I was happy with the deal and service I got from them.

    Good luck!

The 2.2 unit is a brand new unit built from the ground up, its not based on the previous troublesome 2.0 unit at all.

Variations available in Ireland are the 129 and the 163 bhp versions. IMO the UK spec sport model (185 bhp) is the one to go for with the level of standard kit included

The old unit was different to the new 2.2. The issues with the old one were greatly exaggerated on boards, there are many 02 and 03 Mazda 6 diesels around still going, but according to people on here they should have blown up and killed many around 673 times already.
Anyway, the 6 with the much more refined 2.2 unit is an excellent car. They did sell the 185bhp one here, called the Z-Sport, but don't anymore. TS and TS2 are specs used in the UK, not here.

As I have said before a lot of the trouble with the old model was lack of servicing and people using the incorrect oil.

Hey, so what are the specs here ?

Ah in fairness, pissing diesel into the sump was never a good idea! You could service it every week with the right oil and it wouldn't prevent that! Should have had some turbotimer type set up to clear out the diesel if it was stopped up during dpf regen.

Was Executive (base) Executive SE and Sport.

Now Executive (base) Premium and Sport SE.

Exec SE at least is the one to go for, Exec is pretty damn basic. Exec SE is still very plasticy inside, and I've never been in a Sport (have a 2012 Sport SE with a customer, but went straight to them from the dealer - spec sounds nice).

Are you saying now there are these 3 models :

    1. Executive base
    2. Premium
    3. SE

So there is no more EXEC SE ?

Great value in these cars second hand as they tend to be overlooked by the general public due to the small number of dealers and lack of marketing. The cabin plastics quality were much improved in 2010 when the 6 got a mild facelift, equipment levels have also improved. The BOSE sound system on top models is something else. In the right colour and with larger rims they do look very well as family cars go:

What date in 2010 was this facelifted model launched in Ireland ?

Don't know exactly but it could have been late 2010. The easiest way to tell is by the interior.

    Pre facelift interior:
    media?xwm=y&id=1f02b816-e4e9-4129-b9b9-24377fc84e5e&width=400&height=300

    Facelifted interior:
    media?xwm=y&id=752a0572-1bc1-4d8d-b6c0-f6d735c6b4b9&width=400&height=300

I think the diesels also fell into lower tax bands, all 2.2 versions in tax band b.

The new 2.2L still has the infamous "X" on the dipstick so I'm not certain if it doesn't still dump diesel in the oil. Saying that there is a 6 diesel in the house for 5 years or so here (old 2.0 and new 2.2) and no hint of any problem. A check of the oil and a change with the correct oil will stop the majority of issues.

Don't all diesels do that at a certain rev range to a certain extent anyway?

    thanks for that

I dunno, I hate the look of the radio on both interiors, looks gammy, IMHO

    Don't know to be honest.

The 6 2.2L even in the low bhp version is a nice car to drive. It doesn't feel underpowered by any stretch. Fine car for the money.

But sounds like it may have reliability issues though

I have a 08 Sports model (1.8 petrol) - bought it less than 6 months ago. Have to admit to being very happy with it so far.

I was caught out once by the lack of spare tyre though. That reminds me, I have to buy a temp spare.

    Thanks for the reply

Anyone have any comments on the reliability of the Mazda 6 2.2 diesel from 2010 onwards ?

As I said my Dad has one for 2 years and it has been perfect. I've not heard of any problems on the 2.2. It's not out long in fairness.
