Got grant before - get it again?

    Hi,

I did a 3 year degree a few years ago. I got the grant at the time.

Is it possible to get a grant for a second degree 3 year degree or do you just get the grant once?

It would be from a different Local Authority if that makes a difference?

Also, if you get the grant, do they pay your fees as well (the student contribution of 2000 euro)

Finally, if I don't qualify for the grant, is there any other assistance that I could get to even pay the 2000 student contribution?

    Thanks.

    No

You can't get a grant a second time; not really sure about other financial assistance

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Ok thanks Mango.

I wonder are the Local Authorities computer systems linked so that if someone got a grant from a Dublin Local Authority before that Cork or Limerick Authorities would pick up on it?!

For the 2012/2013 academic year, all grants will be paid by one single body:
The grantsonline facility has been rolled out to an extra 24 grant awarding bodies giving a total of 35 in all now using the system. The system is available through studentfinance.ie.
This facility will be available to all students next year when a single grant awarding authority will become operational. The CDVEC was recently announced as that authority after a competitive process.
    http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?maincat=10861&pcategory=10861&ecategory=10876&sectionpage=12251&language=EN&link=link001&page=1&doc=54161

I presume that all of the local authorities would transfer all of their grant information to this new body, so it would be a high risk to lie on the application form.

Noone here will recommend you commit fraud

    I wasn't suggesting they should.

kraggy, I know you're just questioning whether various awarding bodies would pick up on it, but what you're suggesting at the same time is fraud, so please be wary of what you say here in future. Anything that could be construed as recommending fraud will lead to a forum ban.
