I'm finding that Dropbox is acting up a bit. It seems OK on my iMac, but it struggles on my Macbook, it won't really connect and stalls, don't get the green check mark or anything. Have tried removing/reinstalling without success. Running 10.6.8.

Sounds more like an internet connection issue than anything else, wifi vs. ethernet maybe.

Do a speed test on your MacBook and on your iMac to compare.

iMac came in at 1.97MB, Macbook 0.19MB...

That looks like your reason right there, your MacBook is only getting 1/10th of the speed, so can only download at that rate, so syncing will take 10 times as long (or more).
