Not sure where to post this & can't find a similar problem anywhere.
I live in the US but come home for a spell every year. I had a 3GS with AT&T & upgraded to the 4s when it was released.
My problem is: Neither AT&T or Apple will unlock the 3GS for me in the US. I have had a Vodafone Pay as You Go phone since 2000 but want to use the 3GS while I'm here in Ireland. I don't want to jailbreak it as Apple still take care of me with my 3GS.
Does anyone know how I can get the 3GS unlocked. The boys on Moore St all seem to jailbreak while unlocking.
I'm willing to give the unlock a go myself if I can be directed to safe unlocking software.
    Thanks!

Ive been googling software packages but can't find reviews on these. For example unlockiphone.org. They sell software for download & 'claim' it'll even unlock IOS 5.0.1
Does anyone know anything about them?

i don't think that will work, it definitely won't work on a stock iphone

Thanks for your responses. I've seen so many unlocked iPhones for sale on eBay over the years that makes me think someone somewhere must be able to do it!:D
But I suppose I'll just jailbreak it so. Apple have been incredible with after sales service... My current 3GS is the 2nd replacement since Jan '11 (at no cost). Oh well.
    Thanks again!

there's nothing to worry about with jailbreaking, if anything happens the phone you can always restore it in iTunes to remove the jb and return it to apple

Ah. I never heard that before!
I thought it would brick if you tried to do anything through iTunes.
Thanks...I'm convinced. I'll give that a go so.
