I have a HP laptop and every time I start up, it says that it is checking C: disk. It then says that there may be a problem with the C drive and suggests doing a system restore. If I do a system restore what will I lose. Will i lose files or just windows stuff? I'm sick of the message as it slows the start up the computer itself is working fine mostly.
    Thanks

If you'll do full system restore you will loose everything. HardDrive will be repartitioned, formatted and all system files, drivers etc coppied. There may be an option to just copy system files over but I wouldn't do that without backing up everything - just in case.

It looks like your Hard Drive may be failing so any demanding operation may damage it further. In fact, you should backup everything yesterday.
