not sure if this is the rightplace or not.

had a leak in the bathroom the other day and the water made its way into the bedroom next door. a big strip of carpet got soaked and we eventually got it dried between placing towels on it to soak up the bulk of the moisture and then the heating done the rest.
now there is a smell from the carpet, we have tried shake and vac but that hasn't worked. i have tried google and baking soda seems to have cropped up a few times. but i thought i would ask here before trying anything else first.

so iam open to suggestions on how to get rid of the smell,
its a brand new carpet so i don't want to throw it out, iam also trying to avoid lifting it as i probably won't get it back down right.

I have often heard Aggie from "Kim & Aggie How Clean Is Your House fame" on the Ray D'Arcy show been asked how to remove smells like sour milk from car boots, sofa, carpets etc, and she always seemed to recommend using Milton sterilising liquid, it neutralises the odour and wont damage the fabric. Just dab it on with a clean cloth, worth a try, good luck ;)

first indications are that it is a success:D
after just one application the smell has allmost dissapeared completely, just leaving it dry now at the moment, and if needs be might give it a second application later on tonight or else tomorrow.

Bread soda really does work. It worked on the sour milk smell in my car. Sprinkle on plenty, leave a few hours then vacuum.

    LOL
was singing that shake and vac tune in my head going around the house last night.

anyhow milton has done the job, but wife seems to have gone a bit heavy with it so we have a slight swimming pool smell coming from the room, which is miles better than the mouldy smell. so the plan today is to open up the windows and doors and let the air through that should shift it.
lovely day fr the job too which is a nice bonus:D
