Job Bridge and Maternity Leave

I am currently unemployed since just before Xmas and looking for work. I found a job on job bridge and really think that I would like to do, my issue is that I am almost 5 months pregnant.

Has anyone out there undertaken a job bridge scheme while pregnant and how does it work, are you entitled to maternity leave or what happens.

I have had a look at the job bridge site and can't find the answer there,

    Thanks

Just to update anyone interested in this.

I rang jobbridge on this and there is currently no maternity leave on this scheme or any sort of leave.

I was told that I can apply for the job and to discuss with the employer that I will only be able to do however many months because of the pregnancy. If I was to get the position I would just finish up when I was due and they could apply for someone else to finish off the position I was in.

As for social welfare purposes I would be remaining on JB/JA I would not be putting up a credit so would not be entitled to maternity benefit.

But then are you still entitled to JA/JB after the baby is born? Just a query myself as I am in a similar situation.

The guy I was talking to said that I would be entitled to it as long as my stamps had not run out.

I asked would there be hassle that I was giving up the experience because of having a baby and he said that you can leave a job bridge at any stage without reason and still get JB/JA.

I got the feeling talking to him that there are no guidelines and he was just saying go on job bridge, leave when you want and go back whenever you are ready to.

I also asked what would happen if while on the placement I got sick, (possibility when pregnant) would I be entitled to illness benefit, he said no that it would remain JB/JA.

To be honest it all sounded a bit up it the air and I was not 100% certain how things would stand going on the scheme, you might be better off ringing yourself and seeing do you get any further information.

..what if you're on JSA with no stamps and become pregnant?

    Hi fitzcoff,

I'm on the Internship and I got pregnant just few days after I've started my Internship.
I rang to JobBridge about the ML, they've told me that I'm entitled to 26 weeks of Maternity Leave plus some small payment will be added towards my Jobseekers Allowance. Then later is up to you whether you would like to return to your internship or not (of course if your employer is okay with that too) and no need any written notice before or after.

Another thing, if you'll get ill during Internship (not sure 100%) you won't get Illness Benefit. I reckon as long you have your GP notes you'll fine.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!
