You don't want to catch any of them, and if they are eliminated no one need ever catch them ever again.

    http://unitingtocombatntds.org/
Today in London, 13 pharmaceutical companies, the U.S., U.K. and U.A.E governments, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank and other global health organisations announced a new, coordinated push to accelerate progress toward eliminating or controlling 10 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) by the end of the decade.

    http://unitingtocombatntds.org/downloads/press/ntd_event_disease_summaries.pdf

    Elimination by 2020 of
Guinea worm disease, Leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, blinding trachoma ,sleeping sickenss

    Local control of
river blindness , schistosomiasis, , visceral leishmaniasis, chagas , soil transmitted Helminthes,

    http://www.dfid.gov.uk/News/Latest-news/2012/Britain-to-protect-more-than-140-million-in-global-effort-to-rid-the-world-of-neglected-tropical-diseases/
Britain’s increased aid is largely focused on four diseases – lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), onchocerciasis (river blindness), schistosomiasis (bilharzia) and dracunculiasis (Guinea Worm).

It will help make Guinea Worm the second human disease ever to be eradicated in history by 2015, help secure the elimination of elephantiasis and river blindness and protect millions more from bilharzia.

Yeah they're starting to recognise that tropical diseases mutate, migrate, and then even the wealthiest banker is dying on a hospital bed somewhere. We've already got tuberculosis which has no known treatment spreading rapidly.

Bit of self preservation there tbh.

So they can go anywhere in the world in search of Weapons of Mass Destruction, without fear of infection, whilst holidaying on duty free oil. . .

Gates and his wife are just the latest in a long line of aristocratic American eugencists. Not only do they get to wipe Darwin's "Lesser Races" off the face of the earth - but they generate massive profits for Big Pharma.

These drugs will be paid for out of our taxes in order to make sure Africans remain a people who always need the white man to civilise them.

Same old story rich White Folks making money for other rich white folk and ensuring that the people of colour need to be eh...restricted.

Bill Gates is the 21st Century's Cecil Rhodes dealing with the natives. Same ole, same ole.

Leave Africans alone. They are not on a wildlife reserve and need culling.

Wait. Do you think this is a good thing or bad thing?

Just read other responses to this thread. Depressing.

Oh its a good thing, even a great thing, but before the roses start showering down there is an element of enlightened self interest I would say. Still, lets hope they keep it up.

Billy G only puts the "charity Money" into something that he can get a Patent out of in the end.

A cure for "insert disease here", what's that worth?

    F-OFF Billy G.

    That's great news.

The last thing I would wish on anyone is that horrible disease known as
    Hong Kong Dong.

Not a lot since most of those with the disease are poor and eradicating the disease kills off future revenue streams.

    [cynic]
It's about the best PR money can buy though. [/cynic]

Most of the above ailments are parasitic and only thrive in the tropics, specifically in dirty water, however I do not disagree entirely with your sentiment.

So should they shoot them, or cure them, or leave them alone? Are you a racist, or are you calling them racist? And how are African societies to progress if much of the population are blind/crippled/sick/caring for the sick? "Disease load" is a big burden on their economies.

How much of the cost of this falls on the lap of the tax-payer?

Do the Pharma companies contribute or is this simply a transfer of wealth and opportunity from tax-payer to shareholder, CEO and bureaucrat?
