    Which OS are you using?

Assuming Windows, does your wireless adapter show up in Network connections and is it enabled?
Most laptops have a function key which toggles the wireless adapter between enabled/disabled

In Control Panel - administrative tools - Computer Management - Device Manager Does the wireless device have a yellow '?' as an unknown device? If so remove it and reboot. Your OS should now recognise it as a new device and install the appropriate driver.

If it was unknown and cannot find a driver for it download the driver from the Laptop manufacturer's website and install it.
