If anyone is interested, there's an amateur event for the UK and Ireland that any golfer with an official CONGU handicap (so GUI qualifies) can enter. It's Ryder Cup format.

    More details here

Apparently Ireland won it last year, the first year it was run.

myself and a mate will be having a bash anyway, 12.4 and 17.9 handicappers. If we are drawn at home we'll be inviting ye down to the Ring of Kerry anyway!

I'd love to know how many entered it last year for Ireland?

Signed up hoping for a away draw. Will be interesting to see how many play but i'd say they will struggle for more than the 96 pairs it will take for them to have the qualifying comp.

Just an update on our progress so far. We play off 12 and 14. We played a pair from ballykisteen in Ballykisteen, A purcell and a bruen player. We won 1up after 18. We also played a pair from Adare manor at the Irish Open Adare course which we won 2 & 1.
On Sunday 22nd we will play a pair from Rathdowney Golf Club for a place on the team to represent Ireland in September.
    Exciting times ahead.

We had a great match against a couple from Rathdowney,he was off 6 and she was off 12. She recieved 2 shots on to her handicap as the difference between mens and ladies standard scratch in mitchelstown is 2. She then played off the ladies tees but the mens index.
Unfortunatly for us she was fantastic. She birdied 9,11 & 13. We were all square after 15. I missed a 6 footer for birdie and a win on sixteen. They
parred 17 to go 1 up with 1 to play. We birdied 18.......... but so did they.Game over.
A very nice couple, fine golfers and soon to be Mr and Mrs.
Best of luck to them in the finals. As far as I know it is on sky sports in October.
A great golfing experience, we will definitly have another go next year. I would reccommend it to anyone with a competitive bone in their body.
