As above, I was just wondering is it possible to hire a commercial van with tow hitch in Ireland to bring a small boat back fron the Uk on the ferry?

Has anyone done this before? Trailer is Single-axle

    thanks

    I'm sure it is possible.
    Why wouldn't it?

PS - is it not easier to just cross the sea in a boat ?

Well I wasn't sure if you could hire a Commercial Van here in Ireland with a Tow Hitch and legally bring it to the UK and bring the boat over, and would the Insurance cover it?

Sadly boat is too small to cross the Irish Sea:P

Get the boat and trailer delivered to the ferryport in uk, port workers will load it on for you, you pick it up on this side.

Finding a hire vehicle with a hitch is going to be the biggest challenge.

http://www.vanrental.ie/ do 4x4's with hitches, but it's a minimum of a week, you have to have your own insurance cover and they say an E+B Licence.

Hmmm, I knew this wasn't going to be straight forward, my current car doesn't have a tow hitch, and no point getting one fitted just for one trip...

Meybe this is actually going to be the cheapest option.
It saves on fares for van to go over to UK and back.

Well its going to be a lot cheaper to get a tow bar fitted to your current vehicle(If its up to task of pulling the load) than it will be to hire a van/car/4x4 capable of doing the job.

i did this 2 weeks ago from belfast to stranrear, it cost me 20 for a foot passenger to go over and look at the boat, which the seller bought to the port for me. they then charge you per metre for the boat and trailer. on the belfast route with stena it cos me £122 to bring back unaccompanied a boat and trailer combo that was 5m in length. best option is to ring stena/p+o/irish ferries etc and ask them what the craic is. i do know a lad up north that will do it for you if you pm me i'll pass on his details
