civic coupe speedo problem

    Hi,

I have a 98' 1.6 iLS I bought recently as somthing to play around with. The car is perfect bar an issue with the speedometer. Alot of the times when your driving the speedo needle drops to zero and eventually kicks back in again. The odometer also stops working when this happens. I already replaced the speed sensor with one from a breakers and it is behaving the same way as before. Unless they gave me a dud sensor or what else should I be looking at? No corrosion on electro connections. I'm not sure whether to swap the clocks over or not to see if this solves the problem? The engine light is not on.

Nct is next week, it's probable that the Nct guys would not even notice it as it doesnt always happen but I need to get this sorted out as it's very irritating driving with no speedo.

    Cheers

Does the rev meter drop at well. Could it be something simple like a power short??? The meters are powered by a separate rail, perhaps it oxidization or similar on the block connector?

No it's just the speed meter thats effected. All the other gauges are spot on.
Bought another speed sensor today from another breakers and it's behaving in the same fashion. Wondering now is it the sensor at all...

VSS or the clock itself would be my guess

Sorry I hadn't seen that you'd done the VSS, there's really not much else it can be tbh. Wouldn't mind but I only fecked a set of clocks for one of these in the bin
