I currently have a Ford kuga commercial 2011.
I'd like to get a commercial rr evoque but i dont think lr sell them. Can i organise with a dealer to buy a passenger evoque and get it sent for conversion (i think its some crowd in dublin do it) and how would i then get revenue to tranfer the chasis no to commercial and refund the vrt difference ?

I dont think you would be looking for a vrt refund. I think you would have the conversion done prior to registration then pay vrt as a commercial vehicle. First thing to do would be to contact a dealer.

Alternatively, you could buy the passenger version in the uk, take it over here, have it converted and then vrt it.

I think there are new rules which mean only factory built commercials qualify for lower vrt. Could be wrong though

Don't think this is right as my current kuga commercial came in as a passenger as was then converted to a commercial

Yes, this was introduced a year or two ago.

Because it'd be 100 times nicer to own than a Dmax for the interior wood alone, let alone anything else!!!!!

Why do u reakon there would be no reduction if an x5 or a disco can get them. Both of these come into the country as passengers

VRT is non refundable, however if you import a passenger vehicle and convert it to commercial you will not be liable for VRT.
    €200 rate applies.

You need to get it converted before it is registered, the dealer should be able to do this for you just like the disco and other commercialed 4x4's that they sell. And it will be €200 for the vrt.

they dont come out of the factory as N1 catagory so the full VRT rate is payable, the X5 is not exempt from the full VRT rate either, the disco leaves as an N1 vehicle

wooahhh , theres always 1, ill agree a full fat range rover, even at a push the sport, a disco or X5 is worth it, but that evoque is something LR should have aborted at conception and its not a very practical commercial vehicle

This was the case until last year, not any more, unless it leaves the factory as a commercial. Converted vehicles are classed as the 13.5% rate now i think. No more €200 for them.

actually i stand corrected you seem to be dead right,i checked the ford site and my current kuga was 24k inc vat and now the base model is 26k so they have gone up 2k in 12 months

Only used vehicels can be converted, new ones must come from the factory.
If you convert an Irish reg. vehicle VRT does not apply, it only needs to be reclassified, subject to a VTN (DOE) test.
If you go down the conversion route go and talk to your local VTN tester,
as we all know everybody can have a slightly different view on how the rules are applied.

Kuga Van is €25,120 ex. Works (Ford price list 01/01/12) and subject to €200 VRT. This leaves the factory as a type N1 commercial (still needs a few bits doing when it arrives).

LandRover are only bringing in the Discovery Commercial as a 5 seat model - which is type N1. They aren't bothering with the 2 seat. LandCruiser and the new Pajero are the only other 2 4x4 Commercials that I can think of.

Rumour has it that VW are going to be bringing the Golf van in again, around March / April. Toyota have the Auris Van (which is €200 VRT) and Opel are finalising the Astra (5dr) commercial. Along with the Fiest Van, that's about it for car based commercials at the moment.

If this correct, I stand corrected, it's been a while since I was directly involved in a conversion.

Land Rover do make Discovery and Freelander commercials with no rear seats etc but obviously not bothered selling them here. The N1 Discos with rear seats are a VAT and BIK dodge, you still pay VRT on them.

As pointed out, to meet commercial VRT requirements, it has to be factory built so no post import conversions on new vehicles. Land Rover will never build a commercial version of the Sport, full fat Rangie or the Evoque, it gives the wrong image.

Of course you can still pay the full VRT and then destroy the value of the vehicle to save a few quid on road tax.

+1 , i thought the evoque was designed to appeal to the tax sensetive market anyway , like the quashqai

Have VW confirmed that they are bringing out the golf van. I cant seem to find anything on it. What about the UK? in car derived vans?
