Booking a Lufthansa flight with someone else's credit card

    Hi,
I had wanted to book a flight to Berlin on the Lufthansa website with my sister's debit card but when I went to complete payment I was told that I must use this card as a form of ID when checking-in.So instead of booking it here,I booked the same flight on Opodo.co.uk.Opodo didn't mention anything about having to use the card as a ID.Does anyone have any experience of flying with Lufthansa having booked their flight with someone else's card?Could this be a problem at check-in?

Wasn't a problem for me in the past. That's usually only in countries with a high volume of fraud. I know if you're flying in or out of India you have to have the card with you.

Which country are you going to?

Flying to Berlin.Emailed lufthansa earlier and they told me that because I booked with my sister's card she would have to be there when i check-in.Can't honestly expect her to go to london just so I can check-in.Seems ridiculous.I'll only be taking hand luggage so I was thinkin that if i checked in and printed my boarding pass online or using their check-in machines at the airport,I wouldn't be asked for it?

if you checkin online and print the boarding pass then you wont get asked at the gate from my experience flying with them.

So, with the Lufthansa site, you need to present your card as a form of ID only if you haven't validated your card with 3D secure. (3D secure is that annoying thing that asks you for a special password, or some extra details like your date of birth and your card's credit limit.)

If you didn't use that, you'll need your card to get the pass from an airport kiosk, or at the checkin desk, or to enter some detail from the card if you check in online.

If you booked through Opodo, you won't need to present the card, since Opodo is taking the risk that you could be using a stolen card, not lufthansa

The germans are really uptight about this they even do this on their trains and they scan your ticket printout and then swipe through your Credit Card. I only ever flew Lufthansa once on an internal German flight but I don't remember them asking for my Credit Card though.

I've never shown any card upon checkin with LH, only passport.

Thanks for all your replies.Much appreciated.Had never heard anything like this before so I just wanted to know if anyone had any experiences with it.Anyway,I called Lufthansa and they told me it won't be a problem if I check-in online and print my boarding pass myself.

You won't have a problem. I booked with PayPal with Lufthansa before and wasn't queried on it.
