How old is your computer? (that being a desktop/laptop/netbook)

I refer to your main PC (if you have more than 1).

My last major upgrade (new mobo + cpu, but kept everything else) was just under 4 years ago. So I've selected 3-4 years...

Honestly no idea, Case is only very recent (I accidentally kicked a usb cable that was plugged in at the bottom of the previous case and it took the port with it :P), Added 4 more gigs of RAM there around the same time (bringing it up to 8).
I got a new video card and PSU about 2 years ago, and the Core 2 Quad and Mobo maybe 4-5 years ago? Can't remember. Thrown in new hard disks, DVD burners here and there too :P .
Also have a Samsung NC10 netbook, great little device, got about 3 years ago now, all at stock hardware except I threw in a 2 gig RAM module, runs Windows 7 well.
Also have a Dell 9400 machine that I use when in the parents house, its at least over 5 years old, still going strong except the battery is f*cked, not too bad though. Like above only change I've done is install 2Gig RAM and load on Windows 7 :)

Very similar spec / history here :D

C2quad 6600 was only released about 4-5 years ago, I got mine when it dropped in price significantly to about €150 in April '08. Got 2*1GB with it at the time. Recently added 2*2GB

Case is ancient Lian-Li aluminium tower, DVD writer is about 10 years old. Recently went SSD for primary drive (with the 1TB and 0.5TB Samsung spinpoints for data) and W7 X64 and a nice 24" LED added to my 8 year old Dell 2001FP (legendary monitor). Recently got a good budget PSU to replace my 10+ year old one (why are fanless PSUs still so expensive? :( - miss my old Fortron one that died a few years ago)

2 undervolted 120mm case fans and the rest of the cooling is fanless watercooled with Zalman Reserator

Can't remember when I bought my fanless heatsinked graphics card, I think it is a 8600GT (all this from memory)

Haven't had a raid configuration in at least 5 years (or any overclocking for that matter) and it's no loss to me...

I'm currently on a laptop because the PSU in my desktop went belly up. The laptop is around 5 years old but chugging along nicely because I put an SSD into it.

The desktop I'll buy a new PSU for to get it back up and running. It is a self build. I bought the parts for it in 2007 in anticipation of UT3 coming out on linux (which Epic had committed to at the time and which I'm STILL bitter about). It is a Q6600 with 2G of ram and a 8800GTS graphics card. The processor is capable of 3GHz but I have it at stock (2.4) and it's very fast for day to day use. It is running stock Ubuntu Linux 11.04.

There is currently one other box in the house: Another self build, but from within the last year or so. It's a fanless HTPC running an atom dual core / ion2 setup. Lovely little thing.

I'll be buying at least two Raspberry Pi's when they come out. Hard for a geek to turn down a €30 media player.

Hows the 8800GTS still going for you? Thats one of the cards I upgraded and gave to my little bro. Last year sometime I had to replace it for him due to the burn out issues those cards have, only got 3-4 years~ out of it and to think I wasted €300 for that :( . I wasn't bothered with the old "fixes" as I know it was just a ticking timebomb as it was.

I haven't had any issues with it so far, but it has barely been used and almost never to its capacity. If I replace it, it will be with a very low end, low power graphics card. UT3 not coming out on linux was actually the death of my computer game playing! I used to play a lot, then just slowly but surely lost interest.

Like you, mine was a bit of a waste of money. I did get the processor super cheap through a friend who was working in intel at the time. It's probably the only reason I'd consider not just entirely dumping that computer tbh.

Keep the fingers crossed anyways, I would never buy Nvidia again after that (I got the GTX 260 as an upgrade and gave my bro the 8800). I replaced his one with a cheap ATI Radeon, does the job and he really only games on the 360 anyways.
I also have the Q6600 and its a pritty good chip, never overclocked either. Don't game much myself anymore these days, actually decided to boot up the 360 there 2 days ago (wasn't used last since before xmas), now the bloody thing wont read any discs anymore  Wonderful :P . Never had RROD but this is the third DVD drive fail (well second, got a laser replaced a few months back)...
