We are buying an insert stove, fireplace is 18inches wide, 29 inches approx. high. We have no back boiler, the room is not that big but we are planning on breaking through into the kitchen/dining room with double doors.
Also is it difficult to put in?

I had a Stovax Riva 66 8kw multi fuel stove installed, and also had recessed sliding double doors installed.

Some serious heat out of the stove and it heats the open play layout very well indeed.:)

Bit of work involved allright, but worth it in the end.

    Define "difficult".......:pac:

I put in a firewarm 5kw insert about two years ago. It's doing the job very well.

Paddy your stove looks great but our opening is not that big and we can't make it bigger as the neighbour's fireplace is beside it. It's a semi d. As far as I can gather we can not extend the fireplace opening

    Mines a semi-d too.

The fireplace/chimney breast in my sitting room was demolished and rebult to the same original dimensions, but the actual fireplace opening itself was built up about 8 inches off the ground built a bit wider to accomodate the Stovax Riva 66 stove.

    Simples.:)

Calculating the most appropriate KW output for your room extremely important if you want to avoid having to sit in front of it in your bathing suit. It is also quite easy.

check out this link and look for the graph on page 59.
A is a well insulated house and C is a poorly insulate house.
