Need a job - getting nowhere

I've applied for at least 100 jobs in the last few months, and haven't got one, NOT ONE, reply , let alone the chance of an interview.

Was working full time as a plasterer from 04 to 09, and tipping around with a few nixers since, but I need to get something full time, for my sanity, as well as for the obvious financial benefits. My dad was a plasterer with his own business, and when he got sick, I took over the business, having had some experience from age 15/16 on school holidays and weekends with him.

Before 04 I worked in offices as 1) an administrator/production supervisor, and 2) purchasing and warehouse assistant since 2000 when I left college.

Is there anything I should be doing that I'm not? It's so bloody disheartening - I even applied for a 3 month contract as a fruit picker, and didnt even get a call back on that!!

Where is it all gonna end.

Cue the smart ass AH comments, but hopefully loads of you boardsies will have something constructive to offer.....

If you have a small trailer, a draw bar on the car and a hedge cutter or lawnmower put an ad in the local paper offering hedge cutting or lawnmowing and undercut everyone else. I tried this and didn't make much but it's better than nothing.

I think that you should have another look at your C.V .and how you are presenting yourself to prospective employers.
If you are not getting replies you are obviously not making a good first impression.
Keep the chin up and keep trying, something will turn up, especially as you are trying so hard.
    Good luck!

    Fair point.
This is assuming that he already has a car.
Do you mean insurance for working? If so no need for that.
I just charged what I thought I'd get away with.
It's Spring tomorrow and grass is tipping away where I am now.

God OP, you must be getting so dis-heartened. I can’t imagine how hard it is to go the trouble of sending out 100’s of cv’s and then get literally nothing back. Like muracan says, maybe take another look at your cv, or even better, get someone else to take a look at it. For every job advertised, they are getting 100’s of cv’s in, so you need to make sure yours stands out from the crowd. A fresh pair of eyes looking at it might give you some ideas of how to improve it. A good cover letter is important too, you want to grab the HR’s persons attention. Make sure you are tailoring your cv and cover letter to the job you are applying to. I know it’s easier to send a stock letter out, but it will be more impressive and memorable if it is tailored. Best of luck OP, I hope something turns up for you soon.

Not many like but Production Operator? Seems to be lot more in Kildare. Dublin there's a good few that you wouldn't need an awful lot of experience in. Call centres would be your best bet IMO. You don't need qualifications, moneys grand, hours are usually reasonable enough, and if you're anyway competent you'll have chances for promotions.

Better off trying Manpower, La Creme and the likes of recruitment agencies. They're on commission to get jobs for people like so if you'll do they'll just chuck you in! Best of luck with it

It could be your CV, OP.

You wouldn't believe the difference it makes to get some pointers from someone who knows their sh!t about CVs. I have re written several mates' CVs after learning the do's and don't's the hard way and it really matters.

A lot of HR types are complete cappers though so choose your personal CV guide wisely - I am sure FAS provide a CV service, though since it's FAS it's most likely staffed by cappers.

It's knobs like you that waste their cash on that sh|t and drive up their own costs so they're not competitive with the likes of me.

Yea so anyone in this country who trys to better themselves and pay their taxes and cover their asses are knobs while you claim your dole and work cash in hand.

Or am i wrong, maybe you pay your taxes but if its a waste to insure yourself or anyone else against injury, taxes im sure in your eyes are for knobs too.

No wonder the country is in a mess. Here's hopin someday that when your doing your little jobs you or someone else have an accident and need insurance, who will be the knob then.

Its better in my eyes to pay a bit extra for peace of mind.

I'm not going to bother responding to the rest of your post but this part is simply sickening, only a thick, ignorant bollocks of the highest order would wish an accident upon someone else. Go fcuk yourself you prick.

Only thick, ignorant bollocks go around carrying out work for people without the proper insurance!! It might make you think the next time your doing a job!!

First of all no.need for all of the exclamation marks.

I only load and draw away loads of branches or occasionally grass, I burn the branches and either feed to the grass to the cattle if I know its free from pesticides or else leave it to rot in the ring heap.

I was only trying to help the OP instead of hurling abuse at others who tried to contribute.
