Hi just wondering if anyone has had the 6 month braces and what the procedure for getting them on is? Is there an anaesthetic involved?

A 6 month brace is an ordinary fixed brace, the only difference in the bonding procedure is that you should expect to pay a lot more, and more up front, to the general dentist for putting them on than if you had it put on by a qualified orthodontist. No local anaesthetic is involved, but they may however go overboard with the slenderising in a rush to make some space. Take some pain killers for afterwards 'cos the guys are in a hurry to get the job done. Take plenty of time beforehand to read their 3 page terms and conditions.
    Good Luck.

    Orthoman,
I think you are being a little bit unfair....

I had 6 month braces fitted in September, by an orthodontist.
He explained to me at the time before I got them on that there was no difference between the brackets, wires etc...it was exactly the same equipment.

The difference was that 6 month braces were only suitable for people with mild issues and that in fact they could take 6-9 months.

I would not have gone to a general dentist for the treatment (even thought I got it using citydeal). I made sure the person offering the treatment was a registered orthodontist.

I have seen a general dentist offering a similar citydeal and I wouldnt accept a voucher for free as my impression of general dentists offering orthodontic treatment is the same as a general mechanic offering to service your ferrari.....they know roughly what to do where but dont really know the fine details specific to your ferrari

Anyway so far, for my mild case, i ham very happy with 6 month braces - and to answer the OPs question, it took about an hour for the orthodontist to fit the brace....no pain at all no anaesthetic....just a strange feeling to have something unusual glued to your teeth!!

Poor Orthoman must be suffering from General Dentists carrying out 6 Month Cases and also Orthodontic cases.
The difference between Routine Orthodontics and 6 month Orthodontics is that 6 Month cases are Patient driven.
We listen to the patients Chief Complaint and aim to address that in a more realistic time frame than many orthodontists offer.
Having completed over 400 of these cases since 2009 and every patient being delighted with the result, lack of major discomfort and the appearance and time span I can say that 6 month braces or smiles are here to stay.
Every dentist is qualified to carry out Orthodontics but should carry out post graduate courses to increase their skills prior to treating cases, having carried out many hours of regular Orthodontics training and training with six month smiles and six month braces I can't see why it's necessary for another fellow professional to come on a patients forum such as this and put another colleague
down, to my mind that's a form of personal insecurity and professional jealousy.

lets get back to the op's question folks.

I will not allow one dentist to slag off or make snide indirect comments about another dentist on this forum.

consider this the first and last warning.

I don't know much about 6 month braces but they sound identical to regular brace they just are on for shorter time? Kinda like going into a hairdresser and asking for a 5 minute hair cut - somethings got to give - and it can only be quality?

Anyway I'm a dentist phobic with regular braces. There's been crying and panic attacks and the whole lot at dentist visits. But getting on the brace was the least stressful dentist experience I've had to date. It's all very un-invasive and no pain or massive pressure on teeth. Definitely no need for anaestethic.

I haven't gotten them off yet though so that might be another story!
