Advice - one day digital photography courses/workshop?

    Hi folks,

Hoping this is the right place to post this (mods please move as you see fit if not). I was looking for a sticky on this but couldn't see anything so apologies if this is a repetitious.

I would like to get a present of a one-day digital photography course for a loved-one's birthday present. He has a nice Canon (think it was around the 400e mark?) so it's not a dud but not extremely complicated either. He was saying that he'd like to know more about techniques etc. to get more out of the camera. I think maybe a beginners or 'improvers' course would be right up his alley.

Would anyone here have any tips or recommendations for trainers? Just to flag, this would definitely have to be a once-off, day course type thing as opposed to a series of night classes etc.

    Many thanks!

    Sorry folks :o

    Aye, we're based in Dublin.

I think a general course would be best, something that might have elements of portraits, landscape etc. At the moment, he doesn't really take it out that much but when he does, he's a point and shoot guy. It might be a lake, it might be at a gig, it might be people. Sorry, that's probably not terribly helpful!

I'd imagine if there was such a course that would go through all the settings, give tips for different types of photography (without getting really bogged down in detail) and would give him enough of an understanding to start seeing if there's a particular avenue he would like to go down, that would be ideal. At the moment, the damn thing is stuck on auto and it's depressing! :p

here you have my Photoblog website

I could do anything from basics and camera set up and explaining most of it's features - how to take nice photos :) - Adobe Camera RAW course and finally Photoshop basics and postprocessing to have at the end really nice looking photographs :)

after one day with me he would get a lot of experience i think

but.. I'm Cork :):) bit far away

We may have just the right course for you. Our One Day Digital SLR Course takes place in Dublin City Centre in our dedicated training facility on Lord Edward Street just up from the Olympia Theatre. The full course content is here: www.iop.ie/courses/one_day_dslr.htm and our next course will take place on Saturday the 18th of February.

My question might sound silly, so don't get me wrong, but did he/she read the manual?
In fact I live in Dublin and I'm wondering how much info would be enough to cover all aspects of photography in one day? :)
Visit my website and don't hesitate to sent me pm. I'm willing to discuss all details :)
