Berto-Ortiz Rematch is Off

Former world champion Andre Berto suffered an injury while training for his February 11 rematch against Victor Ortiz.

Berto, who is eyeing to avenge his loss to Ortiz last year, suffered a ruptured left biceps.

The injury will require arthroscopic surgery, thereby postponing his rematch with Ortiz.

"It is my understanding that Andre hurt it throwing a left hook during sparring. I was just told that the surgery will likely take place tomorrow," Victor Conte, Berto's nutritionist, said in RingTV.com.

"Andre was sparring against Tureano Johnson, and when he threw a short left hook to the head, Tony said that Berto told him that he heard a pop. After this happened, Andre went and had an MRI. Apparently, the muscle is detatched from the bone. That's what Tony said," narrated Conte.

Berto gave up the IBF welterweight title he won from Jan Zaveck to get a chance to avenge his loss to Ortiz.

Ortiz defeated Berto via unanimous decision to snatch the WBC welterweight title in April 2011.

"Disappointed isn't even the best word to describe how I feel right now,” said Ortiz.

Bob Arum is saying Pacquiao is now likely to fight Bradley. Plenty of picks out there for Ortiz.

    i think so too.

i believe khan murdered him in the amateurs

Khan probably aiming for someone a little easier along the lines of Mosley... big money and no where near as dangerous as an Ortiz with his head screwed on...

yeah i Think Ortiz would probably beat khan tbh, ortiz has come a long way since the whoopin khan gave him in the amatuers..

i'd pick ortiz over khan too.....ortiz has too much power and speed for khan to handle....too big and strong.....if peterson bullied khan then ortiz would eat him up like pacman....as the great hagler used to say

Unfortunately along that road, he quit on his stool against Maidana, pissed away a few rounds advantage over Peterson, and made a dick of himself against Floyd.

Ortiz doesn't have the killer instinct, physically he has all the attributes to be great, it's just mentally I think he's weak.

i agree he's not the strongest metally.....but i don't think khan is either and even with ortiz's flawed mental makeup i'd still pick him to have his way with khan fairly easily....just can't see khan being able to keep ortiz away

True Ortiz has made a few mistakes but i think he'd be a very dangerous opponent for khan, also ortiz has beaten better fighters than khan, the handspeed would give ortiz trouble but i think he'd overcome that

I don't make much of Berto to be honest, so I wouldn't really rank Ortiz's resume all that highly...

i dont rate berto much either but at the end of the day he was 27-0 and wbc champ, so i think u gotta give ortiz some credit

i don't think berto is great but i'd also pick him to beat khan at WW.......he has the speed and power to get to khan and he's a strong WW....khan is talking of moving to WW and fighting floyd yet i wouldn't oick khan to win against most of the top tier WW's
