Question on VAT

Guys not sure if this is for this forum, so if not can a mod please move it.

My Dad has a business and has a business phone through this. He has the company name on the phone bill etc and claims back the VAT on it through his business.

His contract is nearly up so wants to get a new tarriff. he barely uses the phone so it'd actually be better for him to move to a residential or normal phone tariff.

Can he do this and still claim back the VAT?
like if he gets a new phone, say with Vodafone can he have that in his own name and claim back the VAT from that?

Im not sure if thats legal or not, so any guidance would be great as he doesnt wanna do anything illegal or something which would result in him getting stung for a large VAT bill down the road.

    Hi

Although technically speaking it should be in the name of the company you would probably be OK claiming it as VAT deduction provided of course it was used for business purposes and you disallow the proportion of the VAT that relates to personal calls.

    Kind Regards
