Anyone recommend someone in Dublin 24 area to look at a dodgy dish?

Got home last night and sky box says no signal. Took it to a bedroom with a feed from a second dish I use for freesat and it works fine.

Took the freesat box and connected it to the sky feed in the living room and no signal.

So I figure its the sky dish.

I am out of contract with sky and figure that if I ring them I will get a bill and/or a new contract but would rather not.

For the sake of a few quid I would rather get someone local to fix it.

    Any suggestions anyone ????

Or even (if this is possible), I think the freesat dish may have a quad lnb on it. Could someone connect the sky cable to a spare connection on the freesat dish?

    Just an idea.

Thanks for that. I rang Tony and he's very busy and cannot look at it till next week. With two miserable whining kids I cannot really wait that long.

Think I have someone coming tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

Check for a dodgy lead inside where the lead connects to the box. Look for strands inside the end that are connecting the centre to the outside.

Also check the centre connection hasen't broken off or is too short.

If your box has two leads from the satellite ( a plus + box) then swap them around.

Using the remote go to settings - signal. It should be about 80% signal 80% quality

Have a quick look outside at the dish from the ground. Are any of the cables going to it hanging down? Take a photo of the arm of the dish where the cables go in and put it on this thread.

Make sure to get a rough quote before the guy turns up. How much callout, how much for first hour etc and get a recepit and post results here.

Also do you have two dishes? Yes the Freesat dish can be used for Sky if it has spare connections on the dish.

I tried swapping the leads and no signal whatsoever.

The sky box reports no signal, so does the FTA box when plugged into the two sky feeds (standard and +).

It has to be at the dish.....

Will try to take photos but its dark when I leave and when I get home.

The lads that installed my FTA system will be in the area tomorrow. I will ask them to have a look.

Looks like the dish may have moved.

In the menu under settings - signal is anything shown, what percentage?

How may years old is your dish?

    "no signal"

Dish is up there maybe 10 years.

    No signal whatsoever.

Most Sky dishes are only designed to last that long so no surprise.

If your FTA dish is only a year or two old try to get them to use that for Sky and FTA so you only end up with one dish instead of two.
