PAYE allowance

I am retired and I claim the "Paye Allowance" on my income in my annual tax return. My wife has not worked outside the home since we married (almost 40 years ago!). In the past few years, in order to avail of her tax allowances, we have returned a small amount of rental income and dividends in her name. Is she also entitled to the "Paye Allowance" and if so how can I go about recovering any lost entitlement for her? Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Hi there,

The PAYE Credit as it is now known is available where the claimant is in receipt of PAYE Income. Rental income and dividends are not PAYE income so she does not qualify for the PAYE Credit.

I presume that the property and shares are in your wifes name.

Many thanks Alan, I had suspected that might be the case but had seen a reference in an article in the Sunday Times last week which just refered to "income" and i thought maybe I had it wrong.
