I'm thinking of ditching my UPC subscription and getting a Linux box.
    • VU+Ultimo
    • 2x DVB-S2 HD
    • 1X DVB-T/C Tuner

Am I right in thinking that I will be able to record free-to-air satellite while watching either satellite or saorview, and record saorview while watching satellite?

Any other views on this Box?

    Yes. You are correct.

    Yes.

But I would hold off for the moment. Wait til the support is available. You do realise they are a Linux box I presume ?

@ €520 for the standard twin without the extra DVB-T tuner.... they are pretty expensive.....

BTW The Duo+ also does this with the added DVB-T stick in the USB port.

(Technomate also have a triple range as do Clarke Tech)

Thanks for the replies, i have read about a lot of problems with the DVT-T stick, thought the triple internal might be the more reliable option.

triple tuner is the way to go, lots of problems with usb dvb-t drivers on vu duo, maybe with saorsat coming online would 3 x dvb-s tuners be an option, the guy who started the vuduo thread (irishchris) I believe has an ultimo, the last time i spoke to him he said mheg5 was not available using dvb-t optional tuner.

Another Triple tuner box i found is the Technomate TM7102 HD,LINK. Are there any advantages / disadvantages to this in comparison to the Vu+ ?

Where would you recommend to buy a Vu+ Ultimo from at a good price and also back up service if required? Was thinking off the 3xDVB-S tuners for future proofing.

Can the Ultimo accept USB DVT-T stick for Soarview?

With the Tuner DVB-T/C I hear you cannot received RTE 2 HD, just standard RTE 2. If that is the case if I went for the Ultimo with the DVB-T/C tuner will the analogy switch off in October 2012 affect any of the channels? Can the mux 2 be viewed using this tuner for future proofing

Why ? Why would the DVB-T tuner not decode RTE2 HD? The decoding is done by the hardware chip which must be an MPEg4 H264 profile in order to decode the HD stations on Freesat/28.2 which are all MPEG4. I am sure you may be confusing this with something you read on a UK forum as they use DVB-T2 as their platform for HD and DVB-T for SD. We use DVB-T for HD and SD. DVB-T is a platform.... MPEG4 is a codec.

When the second Mux does come on by the way it will mean that you wont be able to record and watch something on different Muxes. Very like single tuner DVB-S2 boxes and different transponders, if you get me.
