    Hiyas,

So my english paper 1 is on thursday, and for the personal writing section, I was thinking of doing the usual "Write a speech for or against the motion....."

my short stories are either hit or miss, amazing or brutal, so i think I'll stick with something predictable

anyway, i was wondering if yous could give me advice on how to go about answering it?

    thanks,

I had my English Paper 1 today, and the speech question was hilarious! Impossible to argue from a positive perspective.

Thought I'd pop into the forum (did jc last year)
The speech is a very very good option to do if you can do it well.
I did a short story in the mock last year. Did rubbish overall (just got about a C ; got a D in paper 2.
About a week before the junior cert I decided to practice writing speeches and actually ended up doing one on the day. I was the only one that did the speech in my whole class and was the only one to get an A! I'm sure it was the speech that got me an A
You really have to put LOADS of personal opinion and experience into it. LOADS. And keep referring back to your audience e.g asking audience questions

The speech is one of the least chosen options but has one of the highest A rates.

Right well it was something like

    Spoiler:
Write a speech for or against the motion students should have a choice whether they attend secondary school or not

It's the one with the barcode.

Was the barcode on the right or left.

that one was the "right" barcode, because i did a different one "left barcode"

    the left barcode was
write a speech for or against the motion, children are initially born "good"

it went great, I talked about what influences them, then i blamed society for their problems. lol

That was a fairly good one because one of the earlier questions on the paper was
based on a new method of teaching. You could steal loads of handy phrases about children's behaviour from it.

How many A4 pages did you do for that section? It's 70 marks and my Eglish teacher says 3 pages minimum for a B, 4 for a decent A. The thought of that just horrifies me. How much did you do?

quality not quantity, 2 & a half pages to 3 & a half for that section

but if you are writing a speech, 2 & a halfs plenty

How could you write 2.5 pages on that? I'd only have 1 thing to say on that

To be honest it was tough, just be SURE to BRAINSTORM it before you do it ,really helps when planning it out eg.spider diagram :)
