I have to get insurance in my own name from feburary 9th and my NCT is book in a few days later. If I post the cert off myself (my sisters old car so I have the Registration Cert) I wont get it back in time for the NCT and technically you need it for the NCT.

If I pop up to the motor tax office in ballymun tomorrow will they print one from there or does it have to be sent to Shannon?

Bring your licence just in case.

That was probably before the Primetime about the backhanders. Now they generally do check chassis (VIN) numbers against certs. A few people have posted here about failing because the numbers didn't match, or NCT couldn't find the VIN number.

OP, I'd just hang on the cert until you do the test.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I was asked for my ID and VRC for a test today, hold on to the VRC in your sisters name for the test, then send it off to Shannon.

Was in the nct center yesterday and they only ever asked for the dosh and driving licence, no mention of a log book to anyone

Ye, all I'll say is that the date the owner officially changes is whatever you've filled in on the form, doesn't matter when you post it or Shannon receives it.

I said that to them and they said it has to be posted before they will insure me. I know I could take the risk and send it after but why would I do that?

They are being very awkward, I actually wouldn't do buisness with them if they pulled that with me, unless they were by far the cheapest.

Well, if your doing your test in Dublin there's probably a 99%* chance you'll be asked for the cert. If you don't have it the car will fail and you'll have to pay for a retest.

*stats completely made up by me:)
