Guys, very recently my laptop started to display this Black Screen Of Death where the laptop boots up, i sign in and then the screen stays black. i can see the mouse curser move around but nothing happens.

I have to hold the power button to turn off then turn back on and 9 times out of 10 the laptop will boot up, and if i close the cover and the laptop goes to sllep, when i open back up it will always display the black screen, and i have to turn off again.

Various opinions online, but has anybody got any experience with it?
only started happening in the last few days, and in a maybe related case, now when i click on a link in a thread it takes ages for the pc to open that link.

You will first need to check your Harddrive for bad sectors / corrupted files using chkdsk (right click on System Drive - C: in "my computer" > properties > Tools > Check for errors. And against viruses (using Malwarebytes Antimalware and maybe ESET online scanner) It may not resolve the problem but it will definitely help diagnose it so pay attention on what problems these programs find.

Be careful when reading online as there are two types of black screen problems. One is where you cannot log in at all - in this case you're pretty much looking at a wipe and reinstall. The other is where you can log in but go no further - this should be easier to troubleshoot (and it sounds like this is your issue). You should be able to open Task Manager, if you can then you have a good chance.
