Claiming back PRSI/Health Levy Charge??

Hi again, how would my sister claim back any money that she might be owed with regards this PRSI/Healty Levy fee.

It was on RTE News today that you have to apply yourself, and that Social Wellfare wont contact anyone to refund them their money (typical).

My sister is now unemployed around a year now,so how does she claim any money back??

Who does she talk to or where does she go to enquire about this matter?

    Thanks.:)

You have to have been working and paid less than 26000 euro in the year ending 2010 it is something to do with the health levy charge

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Topics/PRSI/Pages/refundhealthlevy.aspx

You may be entitled to a refund of the Health Contribution which was collected with PRSI paid if you have

    earned less than €26,000 in 2008, 2009 or 2010
    AND
earned more than €500 in any particular week in these years
If you were paid more than €26,000 a year or you earned less that €500 each week of the year, you will not be entitled to any refund.

Consumers have four years to apply for a PRSI refund if they have been charged too much, and must do so in writing to the Department of Social Protection, Oisin House, Pearse Street, Dublin 2.http://www.independent.ie/national-news/thousands-of-workers-due-a-refund-after-prsi-overcharge-3003344.html

So (according to that link) she simply just writes a brief letter herself,to Siocal Wellfare, stating her name, address, age, date of birth, and pps number.

And she asks them,in that letter,to see if shes entitled to anything back.

    Thats it???

If your sister has earned less than €26000 in a year and has made any PRSI contributions with at A1, B1 or S1, she can claim a refund for the amount of weeks she was at that rate. The "1" means she paid the Health Levy during those weeks.

I just got a letter from PRSI Refunds Section telling me application for a refund of the Health Levy has been processed. I am getting some money back from 2008 - it states that for 2010 I only paid contribution at a rate which is not liable for the Health Levy.

My main query is that it states for 2009 - "Please ask your employer to supply a breakdown of your weekly earnings and PRSI or a copy of your Tax Deduction card."

Does this mean I should get this information from my employer and then make a new application for 2009 to the Department of Social Protection. They dont say what I should do with this information when I get it?

It looks like they want you to get the info requested and sent it to them.

I sent away last April, I'm assuming they let you know if you aren't entitled to a refund? (I'm 99% sure I am)
I've tried ringing but they must be overwhelmed with phone queries as I only got a voicemail.

I also applied for this in late February and I am pretty sure I'm entitled to a refund but if I am not will they let me know either way?

I see on the website they are currently dealing with claims received in February.

My brother and sister sent in theirs at end of January. They have heard nothing since. I got my refund weeks ago. I've not heard of anyone getting letters telling them they are not entitled.

Thanks. I presume then that if I don't hear anything that I am not entitled to a refund.
