New HD studio from next July according to an article in the Irish Times last Nov - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=75271108#post75271108

Two new studio under construction at Ballymount according to an article in the Irish Times last week
TV3 said that the news schedule features more than 50 hours of home-produced content including live studio shows such as Ireland AM and Tonight with Vincent Browne , an output that it said was set to increase with the construction of two new studios at Ballymount.

No word when they might start broadcasting in HD, maybe when the second mux goes live? Maybe in conjunction with TG4?

While each of these studios may not be used much they are seen as important in giving the broadcasters a presence in the regions and giving them the means to get important regional news stories fed back to base in a more timely manner.

Heres a radical idea: Why dont RTE TV3 and TG4 consider operating their regional studios jointly or would the competitive relationship (particularly between RTE and TV3) make this politically unacceptable ?

Given that they all use subcontractors, that is not a bad idea. If it was operated on that basis, there is no competition - each gets the access they contract for.

Nuacht TG4 is Nuacht RTÉ. Nuacht RTÉ broadcast from TG4's Baile Na hAbhann Studios.

No reason why Communicorp, UTV Media and TV3 cannot provide stronger regional service. Even using other indo radio stations for such news.
