i was stopped today with illegal number plates that i had on my car when i was fixing the bumper and boot. i was waiting for the original number plates to be fixed so used these, although today i didn't have the front one on as it fell off last week!!. just wondering whats the story with this??, the guard said just to produce licence and insurance at a guarda station and to put on the old ones but does this still mean a fine? thanks in advance. :)

if you produce your doccuments and show that you have plates on now then thats the end of it, no points or fine etc.

must be some car, driving around with no rear end while you were waiting for it to be repaired and the front plate fell off and you didn't even know, any pics :P?

possibly, but if thats all the garda asked you to do and you can do it, then you should be ok. presumably if there was any points or fines coming into play then surely he would have mentioned them at the time of being pulled in?

Nope the Gardai tell you nothing. It can be a few months for penalty points or they have 6 months to summons you, but they can take longer to serve it.

I make number plates and in general the guards will just give you a warning for illegal plates if its first time pulling you for them and all else is in order. You were very lucky they did not do more for not displaying plates though. I would advise you to get car sorted asap and hope they are satisfied when you show them what they asked for. Our of curiosity how are you repairing the plates?

I really dont want to hijack thread but out of curiosity how much cost new licence plate - lets say you lost one and you need new. Thanks.
