When you say XC do you mean XC racing or just general Cross Country riding?
If you intend to do much racing the Stumpjumper is not really ideal - 140mm forks won't help you on the climbs! For racing and general trail riding an Epic (if you want to stay with Specialized) or a Giant Anthem would be much more suitable! Both of these would be perfect for Ballyhoura, Ballinastoe etc.
I had an S-works Stumpjumper and it was a grand all round bike but it didn't climb particularly well and lots of people would argue that a Giant Trance would do the same job better!
Generally the full suss Giants do a great job even if they are (IMHO) shockingly ugly!

    Hi,

I will be using it on trails through forrests not racing. I need a full sus for confort - Im getting on a bit.

Ive a hard tail and Ive heard ful sus have "bob" and not as good up hil, so the best up hill sus is what I need I suppose.

That one is on special at the mo.

ideally I need something very good for Djouce woods. My mates are all better than me but have better bikes. This is my opportunity to pick the right one.

    Them Giant Trances look good

100-120mm travel is plenty for Djouce! Do your homework online and then have a chat with Alfie in Expert Cycles in Rathfarnham! He can do you a good deal on Giants and his a great rider himself so can give proper advice!

I would second the trance...... However I have an FSR and love it, its great fun and to be honest wouldn't be quick to part with it. Its an absoulte C"£t for climbing with but you do get used to it, If you want all allrounder fun bike go for the FSR.

FSR is a good bike but not so much that it will make you a better rider...
