German Masters

One of the best events from last season returns this week as The German Masters starts this Wednesday in Berlin.
A wild card round will kick things off with some Irish interest on two tables, Ken Doherty will play German player Patrick Einsle with the winner to play defending champion Mark Williams in the first round proper.
The other Irish player is amateur Phil Arnold, Phil won the amateur event at the recent PTC in Killarney and his prize was a wild card invite to Berlin. He plays Tom Ford who just enjoyed a decent run in the weekends Shootout in Blackpool. The winner of that match will play Mark Alllen in the first round proper.

Really looking forward to this event as i've already mentioned it was one of the best last season, all tables are on view in the spectacular arena at any time and most sessions were sold out.
Eurosport will again provide live coverage from Wednesday up to the final on Sunday evening.

The draw can be viewed here...

Yes 4-3 down to man of the moment Barry Hawkins.
Irish amateur Phil Arnold went down 5-1 to Tom Ford earlier, pity he drew a decent player like Ford but a great achievement all the same reaching a ranking venue as an amateur.
Ken Doherty won 5-1 and now plays Mark Williams tonight.

Looking forward to that. Ken has the ability to beat him when he's on song. Murphy looks dead in the pan now after a good snooker from Hawkins. Just needs to hold his nerves now. Also well done to Hawkins over the weekend. He must be sky high in confidence at the moment.

EDIT: Well flip. He just missed a relatively easy pink.

Yu Delu struggling to get over the line atm. Some very questionable shots. Still in with a chance. Ding's cueing has been pretty mediocre.

Ha! Ronnie the showman strikes again. 4-0 down, 62-0 down in the 5th frame, on the verge of dropping outside the top 16 and he comes back to win 5-4 against Andrew Higginson.

Never a dull moment with the Rocket. Plays Joe Perry next.

Ronnie is playing very well - a few surprising misses here and there but for the most part looks dangerous.

Cracking final in what seemed to be a class venue. Think there were four centuries in the first four frames. Maguire looked like he was going to run away with it but Ronnie hung in and battled really well all day.

Showed real emotion at the end when he won and you could tell it meant a lot to him. The win also strengthens his position in the top 16.

GOD DAMN the Africa Nations Cup. Depleter of Football squads... Ruiner of fantasy football teams, Clasher with snooker finals.... and the bloody thing is on every year. And nobody can argue with it coz it's AFRICA and we're all supposed to be really supportive of everything AFRICAN....
