    Hello =)

I cracked my screen earlier this month and i sent it away to a guy, in the end he could not fix it, dono why!

I then gave it to another guy and he replaced my screen, but he thinks that im either missing files from my boot up or something is corrupt, he wouldn't really tell me as obviously since its his profession he is not going to want to just give away the info, he would rather me pay him for it! He did just kinda hint at it though.

If i turn on my laptop normally i can see the windows logo and the little loading thing, after its finished doing that the screen goes blank and i can hear the sound of the part where i need to enter my password, i can enter my password even though nothing can be seen and i can hear it get to my desktop. If i run windows in safe mode i can see everything, i am on it now posting this!

So if ANYONE knows what i need PLEASE tell me as i cannot afford to pay for someone else to do it =(

I dont know why this has happened because before i sent it away it was perfect apart from the crack on my screen =P

to me it sounds like some drivers are missing for it to work in "Normal mode"
Have you checked device manager to ensure that all display drivers are installed?

what operating system do you have on the machine? XP, Vista, 7 etc?

Generally when looking at the device manager some warning signs like the ones in this pic indicate that there is a driver missing - Link

*EDIT : Here is how to get into the device manager on multipe OS system - http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

I went into device manager and looked through all the parts in list, i also scanned for device changes and went through them all again and nothing changed, and that little yellow question mark icon wasnt beside anything

I just remembered also, when the guy rang me he mentioned my operating system? I dont have a recovery disk to re install windows but is there a way i could repair it or get files?

Just above the start button (bottom left hand side) type in the space - system restore; windows should then bring up an icon which you can click on that will let you bring your Laptop back to the way it was a few days ago, click on that and follow the instructions; hopefully that will sort it out for you.
If it does, burn off a set of restore disks when you get back into your desktop.

Just a little extra info.. I've been fooling around with the laptop all evening and I decided to try hooking my laptop up to my tv using a hdmi cable and I can see what should be coming up on my screen ? What does this mean... Is it my graphics card drivers?!

Nope. If you can see things fine on your tv, it means the graphics card drivers (and the graphics chip itself) are working fine. And you can see the windows logo coming on and your screen looks fine, so the screen was properly replaced. It is likely that you have a problem with your software (operating system, virus, corruption, etc.)

You can still work ok when connected to your tv. It might be an idea to save all your important files (onto DVD / USB memory stick) and then perform a fresh installation of Windows 7 (provided you still have the (re-)installation dvd.

It was the drivers all along :)

Glad you got it sorted :)

You'd be surprised how many people think when they have a problem it is hardware related, but it turns out the software is the culprit!

Sounds like the resolution couldn't be displayed on the screen. Uninstalling and reinstalling or updating the video drivers (or boot to VGA mode and changing the resolution) would sort that.

The guy who fitted your screen should have caught that and fixed it in less than a minute. If I were you I would use someone else in future if you need your computer fixed.
