Are Leap "on-line" payments manually processed?

Did an "on-line" top-up 10 on the afternoon of the 19th of Jan.

It doesn't show up at my bank account until the 23rd, and it shows up with the prefix "POS".

I'm waiting for the 7 days to elapse and for it to be returned, but I'm not expecting that to be timely either.

I bought a card last week online and it showed up as "POS - Leapcard account"
    So this is probably normal?
Payments should be processed with a couple of days, but if its over a weekend, it could take a couple of extra days to appear on your account.
As for refunds, I believe they are manually processed by NTA, so they could come through at any time

POS normally only comes up when the transaction was done on a POS, i.e. Point of Sales, i.e. a manual terminal.

It could be as simple as the merchant bank account being set-up incorrectly so the transactions show up as POS when they're not.

Of course it's possible that the NTA are paying a team of people to sit, night and day, waiting for someone to do an online payment, type those details into a credit card terminal, wait for the outcome and type the outcome back into the website just in time for the browser to show them it the customer.

One way to tell would be if the "Verfied by ..." comes up when doing CC transactions. Unfortunately I used Laser.

    This thing:

Has anyone seen it come up?

Didn't show up anytime I used it but the absence of VbV/SecureCode doesn't confirm anything really.

Will email them and see. I'm suspecting quite a lot of the "back end" is manual.

That doesn't tell you anything. Retailers aren't required to use "Verfied by ...", they just accept more fraud risk if they don't use it.

For example Amazon don't use it, nor do many other major retailers.

FYI, the major retailers don't use it as they rightfully feel it is complicated and frightens users from purchasing online and leads to many abandoned purchases.

The big retailers don't have to worry about increased fraud risk as they are so large they can tell Visa, etc. to take a hike.

It is really only the smaller retailers that are effected. BTW I think the "Verified by" thing is the worst thing that has ever happened to online retailing.

It does. If it comes up, it's automated.

If it's missing, that's another story.

I would say 75% of sites I buy off use the "Verified by..."

Can't say I'm a fan of it, but then again I was a victim of on-line credit card fraud before they brought it in.

Yes but if it doesn't come up (which it doesn't), it doesn't tell you whether it's automated or not. So you're still no further on :)

You're kinda repeating what I said!

Will find out soon enough what they say.

Or put in an incorrect credit card number. Or put in the correct credit card number with an invalid expiry date or ccv2. I just did both of these. Both came back straight away with a payment declined message.

I also notice that they are using Payzone as the payments provider.

There's a simple algorithm to verify that.

A better indication, but still doesn't mean the payment isn't being processed manually.

How do you think it's working? What happens if the persons card has reached it's limit or is blocked?

I really don't know, I'm just surprised than an on-line transaction takes 4 days to appear. Compared to other on-line transactions I do, like with paypal or Amazon, both of which show up straight away.

I suspect for now that while the transactions are possibly being validated instantly, they're being processed manually "just in case".

I've never had an on-line transaction show up "straight away". Most take 2 days and some can take longer.

Looking back through mine, paypal is same day as are a few others like Travelodge, Grabone, Ticketmaster...

Don't be silly - the payments are processed by Payzone in real time like all other payzone services, they're not processed by the NTA directly in any shape or form and they will get very limited details on any transaction.

I've never had any transaction from online to show up straight away, although it's always good to create a conspiracy theory based on absolutely no foundation to beat the NTA with.

Did you not state last week that they use "An Post" to send information to the relevant operators?

Yup, heard it from a lad down the pub called Dave.

In fairness it's day 12 and my 7 day refund still hasn't turned up, so someone's running a shitty service.

Or would people prefer that we all worship at the NTA altar?

There are valid concerns about Leap and it's delivery and people are dead right to complain about them. Inventing stories about credit card transactions being manually entered or top-ups being posted around Dublin is not valid criticism.

Got an email notification this afternoon saying the refund "has been successfully refunded to your credit/debit card".

Just checked on-line there, no sign as of yet.

Payments TO leapcard are done like when you check in to a hotel, when you give your details first it checks whether your balance can cover it and if it can it approves the top-up/purchase. BUT the actual taking the money from your account happens at night in batches. Payments FROM leapcard (eg. Refunds) are probably processed once every working week and they leave 2 days for the banks to put it back into your account hence the "refunds may take upto 7 days to complete" statement. Also the refund confirmation from leap is most likely sent when payzone confirms that the money has been sent back to the bank however it could take the bank 2/3 days to re-alocate the money to your account.

do you not need to tag-on before the refund applies fully?
