Alternative to itunes

I currently have an iphone and have never had an android phone.
I am due an upgrade and considering to switch, maybe to the new nexus or the note.
One of the main things I use my phone for is listening to podcasts during work. With itunes it's very easy, I have subscribed to lots of podcasts, I click refresh, It automatically downloads all new podcasts. All i have to do is connect my phone and it automatically transfers them all.
Is there a similar program you can use for android? Can I still subscribe to all my favourite podcasts?
    Thanks

Google Listen does the same thing. Google Music allows you to upload all your music to it also so you can stream it from anywhere and on any Android device. Both are free.

    Welcome to Android :)

Do use Google Listen, on the phone itself or on a laptop/pc?

    Wherever you want!

I use it on an Android tablet and on my phone. As it's all stored on Google it syncs with everything so if you listen to something on your tab or your pc then your phone will continue from where you finished on the pc/tab and vice versa.

When you first turn on your phone you need to create a Google account (which is usually your gmail address) and then everything syncs with this. With Android you don't actually need a PC as you can sync everything with Google over the internet and don't need to connect to a PC to get anything onto your phone. You can do it that way as well if you wish but it works so much easier without having to attach it to a PC everytime you want to put something onto your phone.

It's much better than iTunes, trust me :)

DoubleTwist is fairly good for that sort of thing, I think.

Do be warned, podcasts are not one of Android's strengths. If they are important to you, research around the web carefully first and find a good app, stock music player ain't up to much. Next to useless for podcasts, I think.

    Thanks for all the replies.
One more question with Google voice, do you have to stream or can you save the podcasts on the phone.

    Both. And it's called "Listen"

If your really into podcasts, the best app for Android that gives an iTunes equivalent experience is PocketCasts.

BeyondPod is what I use because it has a nice interface and is easy to set up but Listen is a free alternative which works just as well.

Am I correct in thinking that you couldn't use that Google listen app with an Apple laptop?

For podcast you have to check out 'Pocketcasts', very cheap app, and it's just like the itunes experience.

I tried them all and this was the best.

Podcast update automatically and you can stream or download, they have the proper album art and all.

For such a small amount, its money well spent

    ## edit, this app is for your phone only, it has zero integration with your laptop.

    Another vote for Pocketcasts.
I've it set to download any new episodes while I'm asleep and they're just there when I get the chance to listen to anything. I do most of my podcast time in the car or when I'm running, so having them on the phone is ideal for me.
Pocketcasts will remember your place in several different podcasts which is what drove me mad about a few other applications.
I liked the idea of being able to listen to a podcast on the PC and have it continue on the phone like you can with Google Listen, but it's a very small advantage compared to the rest of what pocketcasts delivers.

If you're currently on iPhone, you can download pocketcasts lite for free.
It handles up to 5 podcast subscriptions, and you can get a feel for how it would work for you. It'll save you needing to plug your phone into your PC to get podcasts on board too. How quaint :-)

    Quick update.
Ended up waiting for the HTC ONE X to come out. So only upgraded my phone a few days ago.
I downloaded Pocketcasts on my phone and have been using it for the last 2 days.
It is doing everything I want it to do, and seems able to get all the podcasts I normally subscribe to.
I just download my podcasts at home over wi-fi and then create a playlist for use during work. Suits me perfectly.
So many thanks to everyone who made the suggestion.
