Scan to Network/Scan to Email Printer for Small Office

Bit of an odd one here, just wondering if anyone has any experiences/recommendations.

In an attempt to go more digital, my Dad is looking at getting a scanner for his office. It's a small office, only 3 of them, with a small LAN and a server. I detest in this instance connecting hardware (like printers and scanners) directly to any of the PCs as this makes it harder for everyone to use reliably.

He has a huge Xerox photocopier which will take a network module so it can be used for printing & scanning, but Xerox want €600 to install that. Fnck that.

Network-attached standalone scanners seems to be stupidly expensive, but they're for big companies getting thousands of documents a day I suppose. He would get at most maybe 100 documents a week, so he doesn't need anything heavy duty, just something which will scan in documents over the network and is easy to use - in fact that's probably the most important thing.

So I've been thinking about an all-in-one. He can use that to replace both his existing colour printer & fax machine as well as use it for scanning in documents. The HP Officejet 6500A would seem to fit the bill, though I am a little skeptical of the price. Have printers really dropped in price that much?

Maybe I should bite the bullet and buy a good USB-connected scanner? In reality only one user will be doing 99.9% of the scanning and his printer and fax have been "just working" away for years.

Any recommendations would be mucho appreciated.

Get a good usb powered/connected scanner that has an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) as well.

Keep it asap (as simple/stupid as possible) !

    Rgds
