Hey all, does anyone know of any instructors in Soll that do lessons for cash on the side? There's a lot of beginners in our group so think I'll have to go with a private lesson. These cost €120 for two hours though. Just wondering if anybody has a contact in Soll that will do lessons on the side? Cheers.

I don't think you will find an Instructor 'working' in resort that will do a lesson on the side. Maybe one that is on holiday, but thats unlikely.

Last time I was in Soll my brother got private lessons from blacksheep.co.uk, and I asked the Instructor how much she would charge off the the books (not that kind of proposition!), and she said she wouldn't risk it because if she would be caught she would find it very difficult to keep her job, and actually, work in that resort ever again, as most of the instructors and schools know each other.

Best bet is to convince a mate to go with you and thus, half the burden, as its normally same price for 1 or 2 people for private lessons.

Ski instructing in resorts is usually restricted to ski schools only. Even qualified instructors from other countries would have to let the mountain know they were coming to teach so I dont think you will find anyone to teach you on the side.

Why not go into a ski school group - they are not only for beginners. You can get some great clinics for steeps, bumps, off piste and other things through a ski school. The price would be cheaper for group lessons and you get to meet other skiers and have fun in a group.

Cool. I spoke to one chap alright who does do the odd foxer lesson but he was booked out. (FYI: €70 for a 2-hour lesson instead of €120!)

The girlfriend wants lessons too and it's an extra €25 per extra person, so not too bad.

I wouldn't mind a group lesson only the first year we went we did a group and there were about 14 people in it. Found it a bit crowded. It's just with a smaller group the instructor has more time to give to each person.

I agree I think you can get a bit lost in large groups particularly in early stages.

I have always found though, that the more advanced the class the smaller the group, as people who have been before are less and less inclined to get lessons, the more they progress.

The last time I got lessons in a group (2 weeks ago), I was the only person in the group! It was a 1 on 1 group lesson!

Interesting! This will be my 5th year skiing now. I'm not too bad but I just know myself that the ould technique isn't the best!

Might be worth chancing the group so.

Every good school will have a practice run with you first anyway, to see what you are capable of etc.. So I would suggest going with an upper intermediate level, and you can always go up or drop down if need be. And like I said, the higher you go, the smaller the class size.

    Hi Trevor O,

Just sent you a PM, I got private lessons back in 2008 whilst in Soll - two hours, cant remember how much but the girl who gave them was excellent.

Flick flak: ISIA qualified instructors can teach any where ( except for France) as long as they have the requisite insurance for that jurisdiction.

There is an Irish lad called Lenny in Soll that could put you in touch with the relevant people
