Bass electrical noise problem

    Hi folks,
I have a problem with electrical noise through my amp. I play a Lakland through a PJB Briefcase. The bass is perfectly quiet when I play in other places and through other amps, and the amp is perfectly quiet until I plug it into the bass. When I point the bass in certain directions, the noise dies down completely. I'm not a knowledgeable guy with electrical terms, but I've included a recording here of what I'm dealing with. Any thoughts on what I could do to stop the noise?

Maybe some kind of feedback issue. Just to clarify; you're saying it doesn't happen with other basses plugged into this amp?

Doesn't sound like there's anything much wrong with either, probably just picking up some noise from the lights or your phone. What kind of pickups are on the bass?

It happens with every instrument, even basses with active EMGs. The bass on the recording has Bartolini humbuckers. The lights were all off, and my phone wasn't nearby. I've moved the amp around the house and everything, but the noise remains.

Are you facing the amp when the noise appears?
and what distance are you from the amp?

I'm a few feet from the amp in that recording, and I wasn't facing directly into it when the noise was there.

So it happens with multiple basses, points to the amp so..

The possibilities are either there's a problem with the amp or its got to do with the design of it. From listening I'd guess the latter. Its got two 5" drivers, that's got to be pushing a few frequencies standard amps don't.

The ideal way of testing is trying out another one. If you got it in a shop hopefully they'd have another one to give a go.

It is the line frequency from the power transformer in your amp being magnetically induced into your pickups. All magnetic pickups will do this to some extent. Single coils, are the worst but humbuckers also do this.It happens with all my basses when I face my amps. Just stand a little further away from your amp.
