Can anyone recommend a hardrive format tool that will allow me to boot from a USB key and format the hardrive?

I used a Linux based live recover tool before but I cant remember the name of it.

Any Linux Live Distro installed on a bootable usb will boot. Then run Gparted to delete all existing partitions and then to create a new single partition for the whole disc and format it.,

You can do the same using any Windows install CD. Boot from the CD choose install, clear any existing partitions, create a new partition for the whole drive, format it and then exit the install.

unetbootin will let you boot plenty of live linux distro's of usb, i run backtrack of my usb.
but anyhow most distro's have a easy to function hdd erase tool.

the poster above mentioned gparted, i'd recommend too.
