We're changing some curtains and will be simply buying ready mades off the shelf so may get them on line so we're wondering about sizes. The window in question is 1800mm X 1200mm (72" X 48") approx so what size would suit. Are standard sizes, say 66"X 54" which would be the nearest size, the size of the window or the curtain?

Standard sizes are the curtain size. If the 1800mm or 72" you give is the width of your window, then the closest available readymade to your window size is 90" wide (given that the curtain should go over the window by 6-12" each side. If the 1200mm or 48" is the height of the window, then its up to you if you go for a 54" or 72" or 90" drop (depending on how far you wish the curtain to fall below the window sill and bearing in mind the curtains should hang 8-12" above the top of the window on your chosen pole or track). So you need either 90" wide x 90" drop or 90" wide x 72" drop. Hope that helps ;)
