Am I Unemployable

    Hi,

I am a qualified chartered accountant who has been on disability for the last couple of years but have been declared fit for work since a year ago.
My problem is that I have been looking for work for the last year and despite sending numerous CV's I don't get a response back on any of them, should I assume that because of my background, that is being ill, that potential employers consider me a none runner for their vacancies.
Correction I did have one interview in may 2011 and the employers who interviewed me kept on coming back to my illness and whether it will impact me again. They must have raised the issue at least four times during the course of the interview which led me to suspect that my illness is becoming an obstacle in getting back to work.

What should I do, should I not mention my Illness on my CV, if so how will I explain the employment gap.

    Kind regards

Just don't tell them you were ill, you're not now and that's all that matters.

I'm no expert on interviews but maybe chalk it up to an injury rather than an illness, injuries are once off events after all. Horrible situation and it shouldn't be an issue but evidently it may be, best of luck.

    No you are NOT unemployable.

There are still hundreds of people applying for some jobs, and people having big gaps on their CVs.

Actually, this is the best time ever to have a gap, because no one will bat an eye in ten years time.

How will I explain the employment gap if I do that. Some friends have suggested lying on my CV as they also feel mentioning the illness can be viewed as a handicap. I am not keen on lying, sincere believer in honesty is the best policy, me.

Can you find any other explanation that has any other basis is truth... eg caring for a sick uncle?

I don't recommend lying outright, you will most probably get caughts somewhere along the line.

Thanks everybody for your replies, I have found them most reassuring especially the fact that I am not the only one in the employment gap boat, still is frustrating not getting replies to applications for jobs even where I would be considered to be overqualified for.
