I just saw the trailer for this and have to admit that my curiosity is piqued (although it helps that I have an interest in cryptozoology).

Synopsis (for tiger read Tasmanian tiger, a carniverous marsupial, believed extinct); "THE HUNTER is the story of Martin, a skilled and ruthless mercenary sent into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. Hired by an anonymous company that wants the tiger's genetic material, Martin arrives in Tasmania posing as a scientist. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the family; however, as his attachment to the family grows, Martin is led down a path of unforeseen dangers, complicating his deadly mission."

It seems to be a debut feature from director Daniel Nettheim, but some of the producers were involved in the excellent Animal Kingdom. For me at least, this is one to watch!

Seems it would be well worth a watch. Dafoe is quite good.

Not a bad film, not a great film either.

It is very well shot but the story is a little flat.

    3/5

I went to see this today.

Beautifully shot, sparsely scripted slow-burner. Dafoe is perfectly cast as the existential loner who increasingly begins to identify with his prey. It won't appeal to people looking for an action film, but if you enjoy elegant, minimalist thrillers like The American, then you'll probably like this.

Watched it last night on Netflix, excellent film, deserved a much wider and longer cinema release, Dafoe should be given more leading roles.

Watched this last night on netflix, thought it was great. The Dancing in the Dark Scene was wonderful.
