    Hi boards,

    I have a
old Dell computer: 7 year old(ms windows xp media centre edition ver 2002)
capacity : 169 GB (says 2 Gb of ram on system properties)
    Used : 91.7GB
    Free : 78.1GB
It takes at least 15 minuter to work after i start the computer and also gets frozen during browsing or watching movie

Do i need a upgrade the computer or does it need more RAM to function properly.( I assume it says 78.1 GB of memory left on the computer which is enough to run the smoothly)

Not really a hardware guy, do i need to get it fixed from a professional or if i had to get more memory how to do it (sorry not a hardware guy)

its very annoying to start the computer and wait for 15-20 minuter to work on it, and also the computer makes loud noise when downloading video or files

can any one help how to go about it,

    thanks in advance

Best thing to do is a fresh install of XP or put Linux on it. Linux is very easy to install and run. It's also free.
Here are two versions of it. I put mint on my parents PC,run great.

Download Spybot search and destroy or malwarebytes do an update and do a scan, this will clean any unsavoury crap from the PC, you then need to remove unnessesary programs from Startup, to do this Click start--> Run and type msconfig, go to the startup tab and remove any unnessesary programs from the startup list.

Could be that your harddrive is badly defraged or coming near end of life.

Go to mycomputer(double click on it)
C: Drive -> right click properties-> Tools -> Defragment now
Let that run and should speed up pc.

    Go to start ->run -> cmd ->chkdsk C: /r

This will check your hard drive and try to fix any problems with it, but can only do so much, if hard drive is badly damaged then it won't help too much.
