FAE Repeaters Thread 2012

I seem to do FAE's every year so I'm starting a thread for support again.

I haven't submitted my repeat form yet (time running out fast) - I seriously thought of giving up but I now think I'll give it one more lash!

I think I'll do the revision course - big commitment going to Dublin most weekends and being charged handsomely for it but as I say it has to be done I think.

    Anybody else doing it?

Hi Saint Sonner I am repeating the Audit Elective. Am not going to bother with the revision lectures though as there is only 2 technical lectures.

Shamefully this is my second time repeating the lot. :(
I never went to the revision class last year and a friend did - friend passed and i failed so i think i may try the revision course even if it is a pain in the ass travelling to most of the classes in dublin.

Is there a timetable out for it yet I wonder? I want to see if it will clash with anything else in my life before i put the nail in the social coffin for another year!

Thanks for that - this has confused me. If I apply for the Belfast revision course will that mean all classes are in Belfast or does it mean that I will still have to attend some classes in Dublin?

I am not sure, maybe call the Institute for clarification on it

Yeh I know the feeling, Maybe 3 is my lucky number. I didn't do that revision course last year and won't be this year either. Went down on finance last year of all things, got a decile 7 and sufficiency 0, still dont know what these mean and don't want to at this stage. All I know is get a red and it's game over.

I couldn't bear going to anymore lectures for these torturous exams. Ya could sit the core next week and pass but sit the same exam the following week and fail. It has to be down to approach and linking things together while keeping an eye on the clock. Don't know why on earth I'm doing these things again but I'm just hoping to get lucky.

    Hi everyone,

I'm repeating audit elective and going to do the revision course, though it doesn't sound great. Sent away my form today!

Did anyone else get the tutorial report, and if so what did ye think?

Edit: All revision classes are in Dublin, except the NI tax lectures which are in Dublin. The link up above is not the relevant one for repeat students.

I am repeating too. I'm repeating the tax elective and going to do the revision course, but mainly so I can do the mock exam. I must check can the repeaters only sit the mock exams in Dublin (that is the impression I get from the timetable)

All classes are available in Dublin but about half of all classes eg. exam review; tax; AAFRP; Case study workshops; cross marking; mock exam review are all available in Belfast too. Should save a god few miles for me! :)

The timetable doesn't appear to be complete! There's isn't any info mgt principles and only 3 days of business leadership and there should be 5. Can anyone confirm if these will be filled in at a later date.

Also if anyone can help I wonder what would be the easiest way to update my books for this year I have all the books but they're from FAE 2010.

Where do I get a copy of the tutorial report?

When our results were posted to us there was a form to fill in to send away for a tutorial report. It was €90 I think.

I don't know if it's of any use to you but you're more than welcome to my 2011 books or any specific ones that you'd like, because at the moment they're just taking up space!

I was lucky enough to pass last year, best of luck to everyone starting the long journey to the FAEs again, I'm not sure if i'd have been able to repeat them!

That would be great - I must check what textbooks I have that are still used and then see what I need and then i'll let you know if you can help me fill in the gaps!!!

Thanks for your help. I'll PM you when I know.

Has anyone got a good plan of attack for this AAFRP assignment?

I presume that all the mistakes that were in last years toolkit have been rectified. Has anyone come across any errors?

See the AAFRP 2012 thread man. Stick up any solutions you don't understand/agree with and hopefully we will be able to get answers/help!!! Pure melt down with some of that stuff!!

hey guys and dolls, are any of you doing the revision stuff online? im trying to find a class that is going live this morning but its not on, im assuming it prob wont be on until completed today, has anyone any ideas on this? or are they doing it now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 972 ✭✭✭supernova84

I'm not going to any lectures but I'd say they'll put up each lecture online at some stage, I think they put them all up last year in the end. Personally, I don't find them beneficial, these exams are a pure lottery!

    Hey,

Getting stuck in now. Went to most of the lectures - but missed a few too. Where are the general lectures that Paul Monaghan located to view? can anyone help?

I have just done the corp gov and ethics revision class, found it helpful to be honest. But i want to get good notes (more condensed this year than last) away regarding the BL topics, then when i get off it will be full steam with cases and my elective and going through notes to weak areas etc, going to hard going but i really do not want to be repeating.. :(

Does that sound doable? or am i kidding myself?

    Hi,

I'm repeating the tax elective this year and would grateful if anybody could tell me whether there are any rule/tax rate changes this year that would not be in last years book (was anything mentioned on the revision course?).

I've looked at the compotency statements and notice that this year, topics on tax core can be examined and that " negligable value?" with regard to CGT has been introduced.

Any help would be greatly apreciated:)

    Cheers
